Pelvic Health & Pelvic Concerns
First of all - you are not alone, even though it may often feel this way. Slowly, the tide is turning and people are beginning to talk about their experiences with pelvic pain, bladder leakage, painful sex, not feeling 'quite the same' down there after baby.
We aim to support your pelvic health concerns at every stage of life. Whether you are preparing to welcome your first child, experiencing prolapse symptoms, have endometriosis and severe pelvic pain or have trouble getting to the toilet in time we aim to support your return to optimal health and allow you to live your life symptom free. This can be managed both Osteopathically and with nutritional interventions, depending on the causing and maintaining factors of your symptoms.
Approximately 1 in 3 women who have had a baby will experience urinary incontince (bladder leakage).1 in 5 experience poor bowel or bladder control and 50% of women over the age of 40 who have had children have some degree of prolapse. Whilst these statistics are high, it's important to remember experiencing these symptoms is common but not normal and you don't have to continue living with these symptoms.
It can feel embarrassing or daunting to talk about pelvic health issues, but in most cases there are things that you can do to improve your symptoms.
As Osteopaths with additional training in pelvic health, we’re passionate about helping people with pelvic health issues. We take a whole-person approach to pelvic health as we know that it’s more than your pelvic floor. How you move your body, previous injuries, stress levels and nutrient status are just some of the things that can contribute. We also know that small changes in one area can make a big difference to symptoms.
An Osteopathic approach to pelvic health and pelvic floor concerns involves assessing and treating the whole body, as we would for all people seeking osteopathic treatment. We will also assess the pelvic floor and pelvic connective tissue - muscles and fascia within the pelvis. This may be done either externally or via an internal examination and internal pelvic release work, working only within your comfort levels and guided by your experience and consent.
An integrative and often multidisciplinary approach is required for pelvic health concerns. This may involve working in conjunction with you GP, gynaecologist, obstetrician, pelvic physiotherapist, exercise physiologist and psychologist.
